We had our home inspection yesterday, and everything was as expected on a new home. The garbage disposal needs to be replaced, and there is some insulation missing in the ceiling of the master bedroom, but the builder is going to fix both of these shortly. The good news is that we are able to move our closing date up to January 18th, so we will be in the house sooner than expected.
This morning we took the dogs to the Golden Gardens dog park. This park is pretty close to our new house. The dog park is on a hill overlooking Puget Sound, and there is a beach and a marina. This seems like the place to go boating.

The picture doesn’t do it justice, the dog park was muddy muddy muddy. The pups got so dirty that we had to give them baths. We took them to the Rub-A-Dub Dog, Do-it-Yourself Dog Wash to give them baths. This turns out to be a great alternative to messing up your own house (or, in our case, the apartment that we’re not paying for).

The rest of the day involves lots of shopping… We did leave some of our furniture behind in Cincinnati (kitchen table) and we are finally going to buy matching bedroom furniture. Yesterday we ordered blinds for the two large windows in the house (guest bedroom, dining area) and the one small window (kitchen). The rest of the windows are actually sliding doors, so we are getting curtains for those. We went to all the stores today (Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Crate and Barrel) to pick some out.
We also made some decisions on other furniture:
- Some pieces from Pottery Barn’s Farmhouse Bedroom collection
- This cabinet for a little nook between the dining/living room
- This matching little cabinet to go below the window in the dining room
- And this table for our dining room - we decided to get a tall table, the same height as the kitchen bar, making for flexible seating options
That’s about it for now!
