Where have I been?

I guess it has been almost a month since I have last blogged.

Shortly after my last entry, we hopped on a plane and headed back to Cincinnati for a few days.  We got to see lots of family and friends, but would always like to have more time to visit.   (Feel free to come out west!)

We flew back on a Wednesday, landed at 11am, and I was at work by 1.  That is how busy things are right now, and the absence of my blogging :)

Just a few normal weeks – work, yoga, work – sometimes that is all I get done in a day.

We have had some time to relax – we had a cookout at our house (the green egg did great), and attended a cookout at a friend’s house.   This also involved the longest game of Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot.  8 players spend 3 hours destroying each others bunnies with items such as the “quite irrascible, defractable cheese balls.”   Some day we will have to introduce them all to Killer Bunnies and the Journey to Jupiter.

Fast forward today.   Today we went out east (to North Bend) for the annual Amazon.com picnic.  A good time was had.  We made it the second year in a row for picnic + outlet mall trip.   Not the best outlet mall in the area, but it works.  We will be making a trip to outlets up north in a few months to hit up the lululemon outlet.  (If anyone wants to randomly send us lululemon gift cards or clothes, that would be awesome.)

We have booked some future travel – we have our plane tickets for cancun (yoga teacher training) and a post-holiday trip back to Cincinnati.   That will make it 5 months between visits, but still 3 times this year.   I’m trying to save up some vacation time for next year, so that will be it for me this year.  Cortny may travel east on her own.

That is all I have for now – will try to get back here before too long.

We’re going to the Mariners/Yankees game tomorrow, so I may have something to say about that.

iPhone 3G S

Ok, so I’ve got to be one of thousands of people blogging about this today.    Apple announced the iPhone 3G S, and we have decided to upgrade.   We have had first generation iPhones since August of 2007.  We have had iPhones so long that the 4GB version cost of $499 each and then we were given a $100 rebate for each one since the dropped the price later that fall.

Anyway – my current iPhone is great, and it looks like the new one will be even better.  I am most looking forward to some of that 3G speed!   And almost as exciting, we’ll be getting 32GB iPhones, that is 8x the storage that I currently have I my iPhone.   It will be really nice to be able to put movies on the phone for our long flights across the country.

At The Zoo

We’re at the Woodland Park Zoo this morning for a coffee and chocolate event (rough, I now).   Cortny is doing her Seattle Ideal Bite representative thing, signing up people for their newsletter.

After things get going, I am going to walk around the zoo a bite (I mean a bit), and visit the animals.

The event goes until 3, so I am probably going to go pick some stuff up (like the new pair of jeans that I really need).

Hello Again

So I’ve been away from the old blog for a little bit, and here is the result of that down time.

I’ve installed WordPress (blogging software) on my own server.   This will allow me one huge change – the ability to write blog posts when I’m not at my laptop.

I know this isn’t a real update… but I’m going to stop now anyway.   I am working on transferring posts over from the old site, and everything will be here soon.

Catching Up

I’ve sort of disappeared for a few weeks. “I’m just super busy right now.” We’ve been going through he design phase for a major project at work, and that design phase if wrapping up.
Last weekend we went to ACT (the local regional theatre to which we have subscribed). This was our first time seeing a play since we moved to Seattle (we did see Spring Awakening here last year). The theatre itself is really cool – a very nice renovation job.
I’ve been doing plenty of scootering – just crossed 400 miles today. It is getting more fun as the weather gets warmer. This Sunday I am going to get back out on the water. I am taking a short class to learn about the new boats that our sailing club has (2 Martin 244s) — it is supposed to be 70 degrees on Sunday, so that will be awesome.
Speaking of water – our cruise to Alaska is also getting closer. We have already completed online checkin (way in advance, I know) and have everything squared away. The prices have dropped quite a bit since we booked – anyone want to join us?
And if you didn’t see it – the next Harry Potter trailer is out now.

8 hours of flying

Between my last post and this one, we traveled to Cincinnati and back.

Getting there was more of an adventure than normal. I woke up at 5 (to get to the airport by 6:30). But, around 5:30 got a text message that the flight was delayed by 5 hours (until 1:00pm). Not very much fun, but not canceled, and then we decided to go back to sleep. Right around 8:30 we get another text message…. flight leaves at 11am. This does not give us much time. We scramble out of bed, head to the offsite parking, and made it to the airport about 9:50, plenty of time.

Saturday night we ate at skyline with the family, and then hung out with friends (at the O’s). We brought 2 dozen cupcakes back to share … I hope everyone enjoyed them :)

The rest of the time was just visiting with family, we had a great time, but of course the visits are never long enough.

The was back was much easier – we left on time and landed in Seattle 45 minutes early.

Our next trip will be to Alaska and then we’ll be back in Cincinnati in July.

One of those weeks

It has just been one of those weeks.
Nothing exciting has happened – everything is normal :)

I went to work – worked a little over the weekend (not too much). I have scootered to work 5 out of the last 7 work days, so it is becoming my regular mode of transportation. I’ve ridden 130+ miles now. Full tank of gas today …. $2.94.

Late last week I made the final payment on our cruise, so we are really going to Alaska in a few months.

And – for everyone back in the Cincinnati area, when we visit next week… we’re bringing cupcakes.

Settling into Seattle

We’re starting to settle into daily life here.  The big difference is finally having our stuff back and a place that we can actually call home.   Our corporate housing wasn’t bad, but it just felt like we were staying in an extended stay hotel.   This sort of made it feel like I was a temporary contract worker at Amazon.   Now things feel a little more real.    Taking the bus from our new house is working out – which is good since we only have one car now.   There is a bus that goes from our block right to Qwest Field (football stadium).   From there I can either walk a few blocks and grab an Amazon shuttle or take another metro bus.    The bus line from our house will be great for catching a baseball game this summer.

We’re getting closer to having things unpacked.   There is only one box of items left on the 2nd floor, but the kitchen still needs a little cleaning up.   Our bedroom is as unpacked as it is going to get right now.   We are still waiting on one final furniture delivery, our new dresser.  This will allow us to finish unpacking our clothes and clean up the third floor of the house.   I’m afraid that this delivery is being held up by the snow here in Washington that has kept I-90 closed on and off all week.  (The snow is all over in the mountains – we haven’t gotten below 40 degrees during the day for a while.

The first floor is a whole different story.   Our new “office” is smaller than our old office, and it is also going to contain items from 2 rooms in the old house.    In other words – it’s cramped, but I am trying to arrange everything as neat as possible.   This room has a pretty nice sized closet with a storage space that goes under the stairs – perfect for stashing seasonal decor.

We got our first telemarketing calls today, yes calls.     It only took 5 days for our number to make it through whatever channels numbers make it through.   We’re on the do not call list now :)   The telemarketing call was funny – it was someone trying to sell me a security system, so I told him my house came with one.   Then he said that if it was an old system they could upgrade it or add on features, etc…   So I said it was a brand new system, and a brad new house.   Then he tried again… fun.

In other news – I’m getting a much needed haircut this weekend :)

We’ll post some picture of the house soon, but we just need to get things a little more put together first.

Unpacking…

We are now living in our new house!   Yesterday, the movers delivered all of our belongings, Crate and Barrel delivered new dining room furniture, and and our new TVs arrived as well.

The day went fairly smooth.   The big hiccup was the delivery of our big red cabinet.   It simply wouldn’t fit up the stairs and the Crate and Barrel delivery crew doesn’t do “hoists.”    Luckily we were able to work out a deal with the movers and they did the hoist.   Our couches also wouldn’t fit up the stairs – they went up and over the 2nd floor balcony.   The cabinet, however, was too big to fit over the railing.   So we disassembled our balcony railing and hoisted the cabinet into the house.   It was complicated, but everything made it in.
